That’s right.
After some soul-searching, praying, writing a grant proposal for Q, and reviewing my journal entries, I am ditching the RECOVERING PHARISEE brand forever.
It’s been about 5 years, but it’s time to let go.
You’ll be seeing the changes reflected in the branding over the next few weeks.
All 2 of you might be wondering why?
Simple.
My target audience was exclusively church people. That’s the only people who know the Christianise term “Pharisee.”
I feel with this next project that God wants me to branch out. To target those outside the church too. If I’m going to do that I’ve got a number of changes I need to do…the least of which is my branding.
True it will cost me some time, dollars, and headaches, but when the Spirit speaks you don’t question. And thanks to the 12 month fasters. I feel as though your efforts are helping me hear clearer.
So get ready.
For the next week of blog posts I am going to announce my new target audience.
As YOUR SECRET NAME gears up for the January launch I will let some more secrets out one day at a time.
So what do you think?
Do you like the fact that I am dropping the RECOVERING PHARISEE brand?
YES or NO?

Can it be kary oberbrunner “monk man” now? lol
Michael Spencer might have issues with that one, Ashley.
I LOVE it-I’m a believer, but blog to unbelievers. They are who I have in mind with each post.
You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink, everyone knows that. But friend, you can salt the oats, to make them thirsty! Shake that shaker generously.
I read so many same, same, christianese blog dronings, written by and for a small bored, glazed eyed audience.
Sounds like what you will be doing is needed and it will refresh and create thirst!
You’re so right on.
love it…recovered?
I think it’s good if that what God’s Spirit is telling you to do. It really depends who your primary target ministry is. If your primary ministry is to the church, then Recovering Pharisee may be appropriate. Recovering Religious Snob may be appropriate and general enough to educate both churched and those outside the church. If exclusively to those outside the church, a whole different approach may need to be considered depending on your cultural context. I am in church ministry and consider my primary ministry to equip and deploy the church to disciple those outside. So, Recovering Pharisee may still be relevant in that context.
Your change of direction shows your growth and that you have resurfaced, healed.
I’m looking forward to THE SECRET revealed.
Thanks Brother.
Hey Kary, I haven’t been around your blog long enough to be qualified to have an opinion. But if God says do something, I do have an opinion on that! You’d better do it!
My blog posts usually end up more “churchy” than I intend (46 years is a hard habit to break) but I try to keep in mind what would a non-believer think if they read it? Would they understand? Would it mean anything to them?
Looking forward to watching your journey (and The Secret).
I wouldn’t say He’s Dead though. In recovery you are always recovering. You’ll always be a Recovering Pharisee, always prone to relapses. I pray not though.
But if God is changing your target then let it the “name” go by all means. The anticipation of the secret name is killing me, no not really, but looking forward to know for sure. Maybe it’s going to be “Formerly known as Recovering Pharisee?”
Likes.
It’s all part of your journey toward relevance (pardin the pun). While it will always be a part of you, this will allow you to reach more people with the passionate message God has put on your heart.
You are blessed with many gifts and use them well. Press on.
“Toolshed” could always work?!?
It was the “Recovering Pharisee” title that first drew my attention to you because it resonated with me personally. But, then, I am a “church person.” Your current comment that only church people know the term “Pharisee” reminds me that only church people can BE Pharisees. I, like many others of more legalistic upbr…ingings, knew what I was saved FROM, but not what I was saved TO. Meeting God’s grace and learning of his very real love for me, even me, was a dramatic change in my life, and the beginning of my recovery process.
But you are absolutely right in your reason for changing your label and your target audience. We must share Christ with those who don’t know Him. And we hope NOT to share our stifling Phariseeism. The original Pharisaical arrogance arose from generations of worshipping the Law but not the Lawgiver, and that arrogance blinded them to the Messiah when He appeared. So, Brother Kary, right on!See More
Whatever will i do kary? You change your name you will no longer be slinging at me with both fists?
Just kidding of course. You follow God’s lead my friend. Let Him do the rest. your heart is right. He will use you.
Someone will have to help me on the Scripture reference, but wasn’t it Paul that said he must adjust to the person he was to tell Christ about. Blessed is the man who listens to the Spirits calling and follows His ways. Looking forward to the “Revelation” of the new name. However, currently in the old testament, and hope that you have found a way to encorporate “the law” as well as the “the redeemer” into the new name! May God’s blessings continue to be upon you as you reach for the lost sheep!
clarification on my statement, as it sounds confusing like most of the things I say. Please note, Paul didn’t change his identity of who he was in Christ, but the mode at which he would reflect Christ to a believer or unbeliever. In otherwords, “mix it up a little!” “Keepin’ it fresh!” Hope that clarifies the point.
Man…some great comments. Thanks for the cautions and the encouragement. It’s a joy walking with you in this process. I look forward to revealing the secret very soon.
Kary,
Your recovering Pharisee label, describes me to a tee. I am an x-catholic, which for me means that my phariseeism was pretty extreme in my early walk as well as now. I have a very good idea of how important your ministry was to the soul. I think i understand your decisions as well.
I appreciate you.
Stay with the sanctification process Mike. Thanks for your friendship.
