If so…be encouraged!
A master continues to nuance his/her magnum opus (masterpiece) over and over again, until it’s perfect.
In other words…they don’t flutter from project to project, they work and rework their life’s work.
Simply put, THEY EDIT.
We see this all over the place.
- Maxwell edits his opus on leadership.
- Ramsey edits his opus on finances.
- Eldredge edits his opus on masculinity.
- Lewis edits his opus on apologetics.
I’ve heard Bono say that he continues to rework the same idea.
So U2 EDITS the same song over and over again and rather than getting bored with it, we love to digest the latest rendition.
Why?
Because it is better and more true than it was before.
So what is your magnum opus?
And when was your latest edit?
I’d like to put my neck out there and announce that my upcoming book with Zondervan is an idea that has been in me all of my life.
It visited me in childhood and has been clinging to me ever since.
The last 15 years I’ve been working and reworking this same idea.
I’m trusting God that regardless of how it is accepted or rejected, it is my magnum opus.
(God willing…there will be more working and reworking of it as the years role by.)
Because life is certainly not an individual sport, I wanted to give props to a few of the EDITORS in my life.
These people have exerted time, effort, and belief to this magnum opus and I am truly indebted to them.
- Kelly – soul mate
- Pastoral team
- Chet Scott - believer and coach
- Angela Scheff – editor
- Josh Franer – director
- Zondervan – publisher
- Gabe Taviano - webmaster
- Church - context
- The editor of all life. Philippians 1:6
I can’t wait to share my magnum opus with you.
Very soon.

Looking forward to reading it kary. Plan to be in Powell in November. If I have time may try to get over and see you. Dates are looking like 11/14-16. Plan to attend New Hope in Loudonville on Sunday. Maybe we can do breakfast on Monday or even Saturday morning.
And yet George Lucas takes untold amounts of heat for those special editions of the original trilogy.
Fanboi-ism, I know. I say, good on him for being courageous enough to follow his vision.
That little rabbit trail aside, I heartily agree. We are never “done”, and as soon as we think we are, that just goes to show how very far we have yet to go.
