A Pastor Confronts me about the Fast

Yesterday, I got a call from a Pastor out east.

I’ve never met him before.

He seriously questioned my fast, saying that he doubted God would tell me to do something destructive, that if unsuccessful would “end my life.” prayer 2

Like fasting for 12 months.

I appreciated his sincere concern for me (he seems like a nice guy) and I directed him back to the original blog post.

I never said, “God told me to do a 12 month fast.”

That would be crazy.

I reiterated that God told me, “A life without prayer is a life with pride.”

MY response to my pride was the 12 month fast.

Since blogging about this challenge some interesting outcomes have occurred, some which have deeply humbled me:

  • Several  people, who are long time Christians, are now fasting for the first time ever.
  • Several more people have chosen to fast once a month for the whole year.
  • Two youth groups are praying about joining the fast.
  • One lady who I never met (Tina), who has done 3 other long term fasts, is going to fast 28 days straight. I was stunned and humbled and very unsure if I can accept her sacrifice. I feel guilty. She assures me that she wants to do this and that God is telling her to do this. I can only imagine what God is going to do through YOUR SECRET NAME.

Thank you for all the responses.

Feel free to share this with your ABF, Bible Study, or small group as there are many, many dates still open.

For those that have committed to do the fast make sure you’re in the secret group on facebook titled: Our Secret Fast for Your Secret Name. It is a private group where we can share what God is doing in our hearts.

More updates coming…thanks for your partnership.

In Mark 4:30 Jesus says your faith may be child like and “the smallest of all seeds” but “in” the kingdom of God, where God is the result giver, the seed of faith and action grows into ”the largest of all garden plants” Our faith when put to action triggers the power of God… for the largest change.

Is it my responsibility to make the plant grow? No, for I do not know how revival happens, how my neighbor is healed, how my child’s heart is turned… and YET I THROW OUT SEED!

I throw out seed when I feel the power of the spirit serge within me and I proclaim aloud to others what God can do for he is a MIGHTY GOD.

Fear of failure is what stopped the wicked servant. How great is your faith in the power of God? It doesn’t matter how great your faith is… for you are to “throw the seed” not make it grow. Yet we don’t throw for fear of failure. Making it grow is Gods part so if your faith is “tiny”… that is enough… now by the Spirit and the power of God… throw what God has given you to throw.

The mistake is not that you might misunderstand God’s voice when throwing out seed. The mistake is that you do not throw out seed. We are to throw our seed… make it multiply before the master returns remembering it is NOT US who makes the seed grow. We just throw seed.

God’s power (miracles) is activated by the demonstration of our faith.

You have heard Gods prompting and before man… are throwing seed. Watch what God can do.
