On my elliptical machine the other day God hit me with a thought that almost knocked me off. 
A life without prayer is a life with pride.
I confess…I have pride.
The last few weeks I’ve been wrapping up the final edits for my new Zondervan book out next September. Since I began this project I’ve had a strange feeling that this book is going to be different. That God wants to use it in a special way to heal people and free them from the chains that hold them captive.
This new book, Your Secret Name, is the first book I’ve written for everyone, not necessarily Christians. It’s for people who are angry with God, people that don’t believe in God, people that love God, and people that hate God.
Writing and editing a book takes a whole bunch of time, hundreds and hundreds of hours. With my past books I didn’t spend much time praying for the book or the people who would read it.
I feel like God wants all that to change.
As a result, I am going to spend the next 12 months fasting and praying. November 1, 2009 to November 1, 2010.
Seriously? 
Yep.
I want to ask you to join me that way I don’t have to do all 365 days myself.
Will you take one day?
If someone fasts for that particular day I don’t. If no one does I do.
Committing to do so means fasting (no food…liquids only) for 24 hours (12:00 am – 11:59 pm) and praying for 1/2 hour that day.
I can’t do it on my own. Well I can…but I will die.

Please use the subject line FAST in the email and I will give you your date and some more information. We have a secret group on facebook where people who fast can share with the rest of the community anything they believe God impresses on their hearts during this time.
This isn’t a gimmick or a passing whim I’ve conjured up.
This is serious spiritual warfare on behalf of those who will read Your Secret Name, people who are currently held captive. I leave you with these words of Jesus. Words he chose to define his ministry:
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed.

FAST-anything I can do to help another for Christ and Christ-sharing. I look forward that this book will make a great impact. I would like to read it myself. Let me know what day I could help fast.

Hi Kary, I’m in with one provision. I’m a diabetic so my fasting will be a bit different to keep my blood sugar in line. I know what I need to do for that but more importantly I will commit to pray on my days at least two hours. Not straight but at different times during the day so I can keep the line open so to speak. I’d like to do a day a week.
I was excited back in October for the video promo, and I’m still excited for the impact this will be able to have on a searching nation…count me in! let me know what days I can fill in for you

Hi Kary. I think this is a wonderful idea, but I want to pray about it first before I commit to fasting. I’ll let you know.
I love the idea and I am in…..just give me a date. I think that is what is missing in our churches today.
Count me in – just let me know the date! Praying for this book to be instrumental in helping so many understand the name God has given them and how that relates to their walk with God and in this life!
