Does Jesus have a 33-year-old Body?

Posted under Sermon

Weird post…I know.

For those of us who follow Jesus, I think certain birthdays are milestones (12, 30, 33). jesus

As history teaches, Jesus began his ministry at 30 and died on the cross 3 years later.

I turn 33 on Sunday so I am bit introspective about my life and the life of Jesus. As a result I am preaching about Jesus on Sunday.

Here’s my question:

Since Jesus died at 33 and appeared to the disciples days later, showing them his nail-pierced wrists and the hole in his side, does this mean that (John 20:27):

  • Jesus has a glorified 33-year-old body for all eternity?
  • The “best age” of a body is a 33-year-old one (if so I am in trouble)?

My friend Dr. Chris Houts has been telling me for a year now that I need to read an amazing book: Heaven by Randy heavenAlcorn. He told me it has changed his life.

I bet you Randy answers the 33-year-old dilemma in his book.

So my questions are:

  • Would you want to have a 33 year-old body for all eternity?
  • If not, what “body age” is your preference?

  1. the other question i have is if jesus still has a literal flesh and blood body, where is it? to continue to be fully human that way means that he must be somewhere that supports carbon based life.

this usually digresses into speculative discussions about “glorified” which must mean that this physical body is somehow “different.” so we can still be fully human and not need any of the things that the body must have for life support? strange answer at best.

so maybe this term glorified is metaphorical for something more spiritual and ineffable? based on the freakishness of the quantum world that just makes more sense. of course a lot of folks would call me a heretic for just making sense out of the totally non-rational here…

  2. I just turned 33 on Dec 1st. I think I would be happy with my body for eternity. Since turning 33 I’ve thought of these things too because of Jesus. But if I might want a 6 month warning before I die so i can work out and get the 6 pack and tone up first for heaven. Wouldn’t we get a new body anyways? Would it be the ideal weight God has for us? Does it matter in heaven? Hmm, interesting thoughts. My ultimate preference, since I like sports,is a body around 21, I didn’t pull my hammy all the time back then. Tiger woods is 33 and is in immaculate shape, at least his body is. Good question.

  3. Oh, and have a Happy Birthday! I enjoy your work.

  4. Chris is right — reading “Heaven” changed my life, too. Took it from being more of a concept I believed in to a reality I could grasp. I’m excited to see what God has in store for us.

  5. Interesting. I might have to read this book.
