Who has your back? and your butt?

The truth is…who has your back?

By that I mean, who are the people that encourage you when the battle gets intense.

I am blessed to have a few of these loyal souls. Such individuals weigh in right when I need them. They stick up for me, even when I don’t deserve it. In other words…they’re grace givers.

Just as important…who has your butt?

By that I mean, who is asking you the tough questions? Like how you’re doing emotionally, spiritually, physically, and mentally? Who are the brave souls who aren’t afraid to get in your face…in a loving sort of way. Who will tell you when you are wrong or impatient or annoying?

After founding my LLC, Redeem the Day Ministries (in 2004), I set up an advisory board a few years picture-001later (2006). This board comprised of 7 individuals (the pic shows some of them) are just a few of the people who have my back and my butt.

If you don’t have a personal boardI encourage you to think about creating one. I got the great idea from my lead pastor – Rick Nuzum. Since then, I’ve heard of other people (John Maxwell and Bill Hybels and Rick Warren) modeling such a practice.

What are the advantages? The board offers me prayer, expertise, encouragement, and critique. Besides that, just going through the quarterly process of sending out an agenda and recording minutes has helped me become more disciplined.

So…who does have your back and your butt. I would like to know?

  1. Agree wholeheartedly! I doubt if some of the ministries that have fallen in the past would have if they had this in place.
    Good post!

  2. I have a similar group called the Pastor Encouragement Team. It was started by a congregation leader last year and has been a tremendous help. It covers my back and butt all the time.
