3 Reasons why you crave Noise

Noise.

Some of us are addicts of distraction. Why you might ask?

Simple… 3 Reasons (Thanks for nailing this one Pascal and pointing the way Chet).

We crave distraction because it:

  1. Consoles our miseries
  2. Prevents us from deep thinking and introspection
  3. Entertains us on our way to death.

The only thing that consoles us for our miseries is distraction, yet that is the greatest of our wretchednesses. Because that is what mainly prevents us from thinking about ourselves and leads us imperceptibly to damnation. Without it we should be bored, and boredom would force us to search for a firmer way out, but distraction entertains us and leads us imperceptibly to death. -Pascal

A parting thought (created out of a time of silence):

  • By opening the door to Silence we also open the door to significance. Our Potential sleeps on the other side of our pain.

we all have our favorite “drug”. Food, Internet, TV, social media, sports, recreation, etc. Anything to distract us from doing or finding our purpose. TV the drug with a plug!

      I completely agree David.

Wow, Kary! I’ll be chewing on this statement for the rest of the day (at least). “By opening the door to Silence we also open the door to significance. Our Potential sleeps on the other side of our pain.”

This post brings further clarity to me as to why the things I have been doing aren’t getting me out of the “rut” that I’ve been in.

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your honesty and transparency Melinda. It’s the first step toward transformation.
