SERMON IN A SENTENCE
God’s vision is the holistic redemption of all creation; is that your vision too?
I. God’s Vision—The Holistic Redemption of all Creation.
(Isa. 49:6; 65:17-25; Mt. 11:5, 17:11; Mk. 16:15; Acts 3:20-21; Lk.1:67-79; Rom. 8:19-22; Col. 1:23; 2 Pet. 3:13; Rev. 7:9-12; 21)
A. Vehicles that Achieve the Vision.
(Gen.3:15,21; 12:2-3; Deut.10:12-17; Isa.43:20-21; Acts 2:17-36 Rom.11, 16:25-27; Eph. 3; 6:19-20; Col. 1:25-29)
B. Obstacles that Obstruct the Vision.
1. Reductionism
a.) The extent of the Gospel is only eternal life and merely a ticket out of Hell. (Jn. 4:23;10:10; Lk. 4:18; 9:23; Acts 16:27-34)
b.) I need Jesus only for my justification. (Eph. 1:13; Phil. 2:13-13; Rom. 13:11; Col. 2:6; Jn. 13:5-10)
2. Compartmentalization
a.) Some things are spiritual, others are secular. (1 Cor. 10:31; Col. 3:17; 1 Pet. 4:11; 1 Kings 8:27)
b.) Only certain vocations need to study theology. (Matt. 22:37; 28:19-20; Col. 1:28-29; Heb. 5:11-6:2)
c.) There is a dualism between my knowing, being, doing, and reproducing. (James 2:14-26; Mt. 7: 15-23; 22:37; 25:31-46)
3. Hypocrisy
a.) A successful Christian is one who is sinless. (Matt. 5:3, 11:5; Isa. 57:15-16; 66:2; Jn. 8:33; Lk. 6:20)
b.) There are “levels” within Christianity. (1 Cor. 12:13; Gal.3:28; Eph.2:11-22; Col.3:11; 1 Pet. 2:5,9)
II. Your Role— Incarnating God’s vision in a local context
A. Fully commit to invest yourself (time, talents, and treasures) in a local church.
B. Reach your world one person at a time while growing as a follower of Jesus Christ.
